Taznakht Rugs
The rugs from the Taznakht area are precious treasures made of Siroua sheep wool, usually flat woven without pile (like hanbel or kilim) or with very short pile, often colored with natural dyes. Soft and resistant, they are all handmade by local artisans and cooperatives. In our collection you will find a selection of Zanafi, Akhnif, Glaoui and Kharita rugs, each with its own particularities.
The decorative motifs are geometric and organized according to an irregular but distinguishable symmetry. We can find, even mixed together, lines, squares and checkerboards, rhombuses, triangles, crosses, together with figures of natural inspiration. The mix of symbols and colors makes them sometimes similar to large patchworks or creative mosaics. The dimensions vary from small "prayer" to large formats and runners.

Within the same geographical area we find an impressive variety of styles: the richness of this cultural heritage has earned Taznakht the reputation of a rug centre, a point of reference for connoisseurs of Amazigh rugs.
Like many Moroccan and "Berber" artifacts, the Taznakht also take their name from their place of origin. We are in the Atlas Mountains, in the province of Ouarzazate. Here you can find a specific sheep breed from the mountains of Jbel Siroua (Djebel or Jbel Sirwa), famous throughout the world for its long and smooth hair from which an exceptional quality wool is obtained. Most of the carpets have no external hair, unlike those made in the rest of Morocco. The weaving technique is elaborate, with tight knots that guarantee excellent resistance. The process requires great precision and a lot of work.
The aesthetic value of Taznakht rugs is given by a mix of characteristics that make them capable of furnishing any environment. With a white, neutral or colored base, they offer a wide palette of warm and cold colors, and a range of designs and decorations that are truly unique in the world. Thanks to their versatility, these textile elements can furnish both traditional and modern environments, from country chic farmhouses to classic apartments, passing through a mountain refuge or a Mediterranean, Arabic or "Greek" style seaside house. Colorful and informal, or two-tone with a minimalist charm, they are capable of fitting discreetly - but with great character - into various types of domestic contexts, bringing with them a timeless elegance.
