Taznakht Rugs
The rugs from the Taznakht area in southern Morocco are handmade by local craftswomen using prized Siroua sheep wool. Soft and durable, they can be flatwoven or have a very short pile, often enhanced by natural dyes. The timeless patterns are geometric or nature-inspired. Here you’ll find Zanafi, Akhnif, Glaoui and Kharita rugs, each with its own character.

About Taznakht rugs
Taznakht is considered a major hub for Amazigh rugs, thanks to the variety of local styles developed across the province of Ouarzazate. Many pieces are named after their place of origin and the communities that make them.
Siroua wool and weaving techniques
The Jbel Siroua region is known for a mountain sheep breed with long, smooth fibres that produce a remarkable wool. Unlike other Moroccan carpets, rugs made in the area are often flatwoven or short-pile (kilim/hanbel style), with dense, precise workmanship that makes them suitable for everyday living. The weaving technique is elaborate, with tight knots that ensure excellent resistance. The process requires time and expertise.
Patterns, symbols and colour
Designs typically follow an “ordered irregularity”: repeating geometries, checks, diamonds, triangles and crosses from the Berber symbolism, sometimes mixed with nature-inspired shapes. The result can resemble a creative mosaic, either bold and colourful, or more restrained and minimal, depending on the palette.
Where to use them at home
Thanks to their graphic patterns Taznakht rugs work well in both contemporary and classic interiors, from living rooms and bedrooms to hallways and dining areas. Choose the mood you want: a vibrant statement piece or a quieter, two-tone look with a minimalist edge.
