Azilal rugs are known for bold colour accents: pinks, reds, blues, greens, sunny yellows. The mix changes from piece to piece, and that’s the point. No two designs are alike.
Rooted in Azilal, shaped by Amazigh imagination
They take their name from the Azilal province in the High Atlas. Like many Amazigh textiles (Amazigh means “free people”), they are not made from fixed cartoons. Motifs grow organically on a natural wool ground, sometimes with abstract figures that feel like symbols or fragments of nature.
Materials and textures
Most are hand-knotted in wool, with short or longer pile depending on the piece. Some include small touches of coloured wool, cotton or recycled textiles, adding unexpected texture and personality.
