A more considered way to style the bathroom
Adding a fine handmade rug to the bathroom is not the most obvious choice, and that is precisely the point. Bathrooms are often treated as purely functional spaces, where practicality comes before everything else. We see them differently. If you care about atmosphere as much as utility, a bath rug can bring warmth, texture and personality to the room, just as in any other part of the home.
These are decorative bathroom rugs, not the usual machine-washable synthetic mats. They are chosen for style, material richness and character: a more thoughtful option for bathrooms where beauty matters too.
One-of-a-kind pieces, chosen by hand
All the rugs you will find on this page are handmade and one of a kind, sometimes new, sometimes vintage, always personally sourced during our travels in Morocco. If you need something specific - a coordinated pair, a trio, or a made to measure runner - you can also contact us for a more tailored selection.
What works best in the bathroom
If you are looking for a rug to place outside the shower or beside the bath, Boucherouite pieces in cotton or mixed recycled fabrics are often the most practical choice. We always recommend using them with a non-slip underlay. Flatwoven Hanbel or kilim rugs can also work beautifully, but it is important to remember that water and humidity are never ideal companions for wool. Here too, a non-slip backing is essential.
These rugs are best suited to low-splash areas, near a vanity or in a larger bathroom. They are not designed for spaces that stay wet for long periods.
Matching the rug to the style of the room
Earthy tones such as brown, terracotta and ochre, create a perfect palette for a warm, natural bathroom. In a Mediterranean or Moroccan-inspired setting, you can be bolder with the blues, reds and oranges. In a coastal or beach-house bathroom, lighter blues, turquoise, teal, petrol green and olive can all feel at home, echoing both sea and sun-warmed landscape.
Rustic, country and Provençal bathrooms can benefit from a shaggy wool rug in white, lavender or pink, while a Scandinavian-inspired bathroom calls for a more restrained Nordic palette of white, black, grey and beige.
A note on care and humidity
It is important to remember that wool and other natural materials do not love constant humidity. That does not mean they cannot work in a bathroom, but they do need a little care. Try to keep them as dry as possible and, if they do get wet, let them dry quickly and thoroughly.
