How it's made
This is a large hand-knotted hanbel rug (as Moroccan kilims are called) in pure wool. Framed by white / beige borders, the central field shows an heathered red, orange and white background with raised lines forming a diamond pattern. A zigzag border runs along the long sides. Braided fringes adorn one short side, while on the other side only a few fringes appear at the ends of the selvedge. This subtle asymmetry speaks to the authenticity of the loom and reveals the artisan's hand.
Perfect for…
Thin and lightweight, like the finest Boujaad kilims, it's easy to move and ideal for the living room and bedroom. The warm palette evokes a desert sunrise, warming neutral spaces, and pairs well with both light and dark woods, or traditional floors like terracotta. Perfect for modern, classic, or country-style homes seeking a vibrant touch to liven up any space.
The detail not to be missed
From a distance, the diamonds appear to be outlined by a white cord. But from a closer look you can see that they are part of the mixed yarn used for the warp and weft, incorporating the same orange, white, and red threads.
