How it is made
This vintage Hassira is a stunning large natural-fibre mat, hand-woven on non-mechanical looms using palm straw. It’s richly embroidered in warm browns, reds and mustard with small blue accents. Ancient Berber symbols such as zigzags, diamonds, spider motifs, star rosettes and serrated, saw-tooth bands, compose a lively, balanced rhythm. In the traditional reading, these signs act like talismans of domestic protection and harmony.
Perfect for…
For lovers of natural materials and a Mediterranean mood, this versatile piece slips effortlessly into an urban living room, a country sitting room or a boho bedroom with a sea view. It’s beautiful on warm wooden floors, but the unexpected flashes of blue invite a conversation with cooler materials. It pairs perfectly with stone, textured surfaces such as terracotta and heritage tiles, and with contemporary resin or concrete.
Don't forget that a vintage, 100% natural rug is an ethical, vegan and cruelty-free choice.
The detail not to be missed
Gently wavy edges, subtle variations, small irregularities: these are the most honest traces of handcraft. Not flaws, but living beauty. There are fewer and fewer craftswomen still able to weave Hassiras by hand: this is why at Casa Amar we believe it is our duty to promote these unique items.
