How it is made

This vintage Beni M’Guild is a large Moroccan rug, hand-knotted in pure virgin sheep wool on a traditional loom. It belongs to one of the most admired weaving traditions of the Moroccan Atlas and can be dated around the 1960s–1970s. In excellent condition, it has preserved the depth and luminosity of its original colour.

Its size is striking, but the blue is what truly holds the gaze: an intense, vibrant ultramarine with an almost mineral depth, rarely found with this level of richness. The rug has clearly been treated with care over time. It has not faded into a flat blue-grey; instead, the surface remains alive, crossed by subtle tonal variations. This chromatic quality recalls the natural indigo dyes used in North African textile traditions: the effect recalls a high-quality pigment fixed on wool that has retained both saturation and softness over decades.

The workmanship is remarkable. The pile is high, close to 4 cm, and very soft to the touch, yet the structure remains compact thanks to large, closely placed and tightly secured knots. It is a thick, tactile rug, built with a precision you can feel in the hand and read in its visual weight.

The pattern is one of the most compelling aspects of the piece. On the front, the long pile softens the composition, making the motifs appear almost suspended within the blue field. On the back, the design reveals its full complexity: vertical bands, lattices, crosses, small stars, diamonds, triangles and filler motifs in ivory, antique pink, sage green, ochre, brown and soft violet accents. This is where the maker's skill becomes most evident: the grid is precise, the sequence of motifs is coherent, and the maker’s hand remains visible without ever losing control.

Perfect for…

At 437 cm long, this rug needs space. It is made for a large living room, an important conversation area, a study or a representative interior. It is not a rug that simply completes a room: it defines it.

This is the kind of piece around which an interior project can be built. It brings depth and character, and works beautifully with antique objects, books, art, natural materials and lived-in surfaces. It needs a room able to hold its strength.

The detail not to be missed

Look at the back. In a hand-knotted rug, the reverse tells what the pile conceals: knot density, rhythm of the design, coherence of the colour fields and precision of the weave. In this Beni M’Guild, the back is almost a second artwork.

The aged fringes, dark selvages, slight irregularities along the edges and the abrash in the blue field are all traces of authenticity. They speak of a rug that is at least half a century old and has kept its full presence: powerful colour, soft pile, compact structure and a clearly legible design.

The crosses, stars and diamonds may recall protection, harmony and guidance within the Amazigh symbolic vocabulary.

A vintage Beni M’Guild of this size, with this blue and this quality of construction, is not a common find on the market. It is a singular piece, to be treated with the same care as a textile artwork in a gallery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The actual color may vary slightly due to the resolution and settings of the screen from which you are viewing the web page. Light also has a significant impact: the same rug can appear warmer or cooler depending on whether it is photographed in natural light, with artificial lights, or seen live at different times of the day. There is also a component of subjective perception: everyone sees and interprets colors slightly differently.

For this reason, we always try to show the rug in multiple photos, from different angles and with different lighting. If you need more images or a video of the rug, we are at your disposal: write to us in chat or on WhatsApp, and we will be happy to send you extra material.

We do not have samples of every rug available because production is exclusively handcrafted, and we only work with unique pieces. However, if you wish to assess the quality of the materials and craftsmanship, please contact us: we can provide you with samples and arrange consultations at your home or office. You will be able to personally experience the quality standard we strive to maintain in all Casa Amar pieces.

Casa Amar rugs are not industrial products; they are unique carpets created by hand using ancestral manual techniques.
The small irregularities, the slight imperfections of the rug's edges, the asymmetrical geometries: these are an integral part of the genuine beauty of a handmade product, hand-knotted or made with the aid of mechanical looms operated and handled by artisans. They are also the details that give character to every space.

Don't worry, we're here to help.
To get started, we recommend reading our article "How to place rugs in your home," where you'll find practical examples room by room.

To quickly understand the actual size of the rug, you can mark the measurements on the floor with masking tape or use blankets or sheets to simulate the occupied space.

If you still have doubts, write to us in chat or via email at info@casaamar.it: we'll be happy to advise you on the most suitable size for your room and create a render so you can have a preview of your space.

Send us a photo of your room via chat or email at info@casaamar.it and we will help you choose the best color.
Additionally, we can offer you the RAH Colours test, which helps you identify the color palette that evokes positive emotions in you.

It depends a lot on the type of rug, your lifestyle at home, and your pet's habits. In general, there are no rugs made specifically for dogs/cats, but some choices are wiser than others.
If your cat has very lively claws and loves to scratch on any surface, we advise against flat-weave wool rugs and straw mats, as they could be damaged. Instead, if you have a dog with long, abundant hair, consider choosing a rug with a pile of the same shade. In short, if you have a black long-haired dog, don't choose a white long-pile rug! Of course, you can vacuum, but we always recommend the easiest choices to our customers.
In case of stains, it is best to act immediately by dabbing gently and following the care instructions.

If you tell us more about yourselves, we can suggest the most suitable types.
You can write to us in chat, send us an email at info@casaamar.it, or fill out the contact form from the Contact Us page.

Yes, both hand-knotted wool rugs and natural fiber mats can be used on heated floors.
They are breathable and do not have a synthetic backing (they do not contain glues or latex). The pure sheep's wool used in our rugs is resistant to high temperatures and also has excellent thermal conductivity, allowing heat to pass through easily.
If in doubt, it is best to opt for thin rugs (flat-weave wool, short pile, or mats) and not to cover too large portions of the room where the rug is placed.

For daily care of wool rugs and mats, a gentle vacuuming (low or medium power, preferably with brushes deactivated) is sufficient, and in case of stains, blot immediately with a clean cloth, without rubbing. For a deeper clean or repair interventions, you can read our complete guide to caring for handmade rugs.
