How it is made
A large vintage Hassira woven by hand from palm straw and richly embroidered in deep reds and browns with small teal accents. The decorative sequence alternates zigzags evoking water and continuity, diamonds and cross-hatched grids as protective talismans, “spider” motifs linked to domestic protection, and a serrated, saw-like pattern traditionally read as apotropaic. The layout is orderly yet lively thanks to the rhythmic bands and the gentle variations that are the hallmark of true craft. Choosing a vintage Hassira means bringing home a unique, rare textile, one that will only become more precious over time.
Perfect for…
A dream piece for lovers of biophilic design, this large natural mat dresses a city living room with ease, and feels equally at home in rustic-boho country spaces, or Mediterranean-style beach houses. Its size works beautifully in the living area and bedroom, introducing a natural material with a strong symbolic presence: a living element full of history. It pairs effortlessly with wood and stone, textured floors like terracotta and cementine tiles, and also contemporary resin surfaces.
A vintage, 100% natural rug is a responsible choice, vegan and cruelty-free.
The detail not to be missed
An antique, handmade Hassira mat is an increasingly rare item. There are fewer and fewer craftswomen still able to weave these items by hand: this is why, at Casa Amar, we feel a responsibility to honour and champion these one-of-a-kind works.
